Kunafa (Step by Step Pictures)

Kunafa or kunafeh is a popular middle eastern sweet. Long thin noodle threads forms the layering and for filling we can use cream or cheese as per our liking. On the top sugar syrup, which gives an excellent taste to this sweet. We can pour condensed milk also.
It is the dessert having very sweet creamy cheesy bomb:) in between the little crunchy mildly sweet layers.
In this recipe i have used store bought kunafa dough.-

Now lets move on to the recipe.
As said above this recipe is having 3 steps.
  • Layers
  • Filling
  • Sugar syrup.
  • Toppings (optional)

Ingredients:
For layering
Kunafa/kataifi dough                   1 Packet
Unsalted Butter(Melted)              2 cups

For Filling:
Full cream cheese                        4
Fresh cream/Thick cream            400 ml
Milk                                              1 cup
Maida                                            3 tablespoon
Corn Flour                                    3 tablespoon
Sugar                                             7 or 8 tablespoon

For Sugar Syrup
Sugar                                            1 cup
Water                                            1 cup
Vannila essence                            1 teaspoon

For Garnishing
Pistachios(partially powdered)    1/2 cup

Method:

First grease a cake tin with butter and set ready and Preheat the oven for 10 minutes in 200 degree Celsius heat.

Defrost the kunafa dough and just crumble it in a large bowl. Pour the melted butter into the kunafa dough and mix it gently till it get combined properly.

Place half of the dough in the cake tin and press it gently with hands. keep it aside.

Now prepare the fillings.

Place a heavy bottom pan in stove and heat the milk with sugar. mix the maida and cornflour with 3 tablespoon milk , once milk comes to boil add the milk mixture and mix carefully.
stir continuously to avoid the lumps. once it becomes thick add cream , cheese and mix well.once it becomes thick , remove from fire.

Pour the thick cream mixture on the tapped kunafa base and spread evenly.

Then put the remaining kunafa dough  on the top and press gently. It should cover the cream mixture fully.

Bake this  for 30 to 35 minutes on 200 degree Celsius.

The top should be in golden brown colour.

Let it sit in the oven for 10 mins.

While the time of baking prepare the sugar syrup.
Take water and sugar in a heavy bottomed pan and allow it to boil. once it becomes think (almost like gulab jamun syrup) add vanilla essence and mix.

Run over a sharp knife around the walls of the pan to take the cake easily from the tin. Then turn it upside down on a plate and pour the prepared hot sugar syrup on the top evenly.
Or else u can pour the syrup on the top with out transferring it to the plate.
After pouring the syrup garnish the top with pistachios. Then cut and serve.

It will be good to eat as warm with the delicious cream in center .

Notes:

  • You can pour condensed milk on the top along with sugar syrup for the rich taste.
  • Also can use any other nuts for garnishing.
